Just Us Coffee Roasters Co-Op - Fair Trade Caffeination!

Am back, ecochicks! Did you miss me? I missed you. And I spent much time keeping my eyes peeled for new and nifty eco-stuff to tell you about.

On our trek through the East Coast, I stumbled across this little gem in a uber-cute cafe in Pugwash: Just Us coffees.

Just Us was started as a coffee-only cooperative, but have expanded into several different fair trade and/or organic products including a range of coffees, ranging from light to dark roasts as well as decaf. There's also tea, chocolate and sugar from free trade and organic sources. I tried a yummy latte made from their espresso blend, and it was delicious. They've gotten great coverage lately in local media, especially for their cafes which feature their fantastic products and free wireless. I shoulda found one of these places last week!

You can order their product directly from Just Us, you can buy their products in shops, or simply visit one of their cafes scattered across Nova Scotia.

Hi Ecochick!
Just to further your post on Just Us!- they also sell beans by Cafe Feminino (at their cafe's only though)- Cafe Feminino is a coffee growers organization run by women coffee growers in Peru, Columbia and Mexico. This organization requires that women own the land and the coffee beans they grow, that women get paid 1 cent more than fair trade price, that they grow organic beans and that a percentage of the coffee sold in America goes to a local women's group. Other coffee roasters across Canada (BC, Montreal) also sell this coffee. If you're further interested there is a documentary on the topic. Peru is tasty!

For those in Ottawa, Ten Thousand Villages carries Just Us teas (I recommend the chai) and possibly their coffees.

For those in Toronto, Just Us coffee is available at Noah's and at The Big Carrot. Probably other places as well, but those two I do know!

They did have two Toronto Just Us cafes, but they've been shut down and reopened as different cafes (not serving Just Us coffee).

Thanks for the info, everyone. This is great stuff! Have you tried the different kinds of coffees and teas and do you like them?

I honestly only like the peruvian cafe femenino by Just Us!... I've tried others (french roast, mexican roast etc) and was not extremely happy- but I do know that coffee is extremely personal :) before we discovered cafe femenino, we drank kicking horse coffee- also available in the maritimes. However- Just Us! was one of the first Canadian coffee roasters to go totally organic and fairtrade- and it was out of Wolfville! Uber Cool.
